1937 Langson Mfg. Co., Super-Defense Paper-Buster Gun in Original Box
Fantastic pressed steel paper popping Super-Defense Paper-Buster Gun in near mint+ condition. Complete with original box plus box of three additional unused ammo-rolls. Looks like the entire toy was never played with. Compact, heavy little pistol weighs about a pound. All steel construction, not tin litho. Officer style WWI design. Baked, crackled black enamel on steel frame with red, white, and blue recessed stars. Crackling gives is a textured, rough surface rather than smooth. "Super Defense" is embossed on both grips. The hand-length "trigger", paper roll chamber, and popping mechanism are all nickel plated steel. A single, five pointed star was embossed on both sides of the paper chamber, along with patent information and "MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" in large capitalized letters. The left half swings down to load the roll. The paper roll appears to be intact. It also comes with its original box of additional Super Defense ammo which has never been opened (flap hinges show no creasing). I squeezed the trigger to make sure it worked, but didn't follow through by popping it. The gun is incredible, but the box is amazing. It really "makes" the entire piece. As you can see below it features a all-out attack across barbed wired enemy lines. A helmeted kid in front and another in the rear (shooting from the hip) are shown blasting away while their troops parachute into enemy territory. It's printed in bold red, white, and blue with "Super Defense" arc scrolled horizontally from one edge to the other. The reverse side shows a large "illustrated photo" of the Buster with ejected used ammo. The original 25¢ price sticker is still on the box. The edge panels include the name of the toy flanked by U.S. shields. Lastly, red, white, and blue partitiones decorate both endflaps and include the manufacturer's name in the center.
